Holy Beer!

This story comes to us via Robert at A Welsh View. Hurns Brewing Company in Wales has done their homework and found 24 “beer saints”:

Research
by the Swansea-based Hurns Brewing Company which makes Tomos Watkin
ales has uncovered a number of so-called beer saints.

The company has found 24 holy men and women who became saints thanks to their accomplishments with the malty stuff.

They've
turned water into beer, conjured tankards of beer from the ether, and
multiplied drops of beer into barrels and one barrel into hundreds.

They
have also wielded their pints as weapons of the Lord to end plagues,
quench eternal flames and fires, and slake the thirst of Christian
soldiers.

Beer was an important component of the secular and ecclesiastical diet, especially for monks fasting for their holy orders.

Almost every monastery from Mexico to Timbuktu brewed its own beer and more than a few still do.

500 Years of Tradition Killed by Sugar

That's right boys and girls, a 500 year old tradition of making beer from grains, hops, and water without any additional stuff has been killed by a court ruling.  After 10 years the courts in Germany ruled that a brew with sugar added to it, may be called “Beer”.

I haven't been around for the last 500 years, but I do know that I've like German beers the way they are.  Just hope that sweet girly German beers aren't all the rage now!

Blow-up Beer Cooler

Despite the “I'm afraid of my shadow” ground hog, summer time is coming and now is the time to prepare.  Having a grill is important but nothing kills a good gathering like warm beer, so keep it cold with the Inflatable Beer Bin from drinkstuff.

Beer Magazine

Our neighbors to the north; that's Canada if you're drunk, have produced a beer magazine.  It's a quarterly publication that hopes to be monthly.  I'm sure there's a good possibility of this happening since they have a very specific target demographic:  “We're going for a demographic from 19 to 90.”

Hey come to think of it, that's the target demographic for this blog.

Beer Recipe: Turkey Chile With Corn Cakes

This recipe for Turkey Chile with Corn Cakes
sounds delightful. Now that I finally found a store around me that
carries chipotle in adobo sauce, I'll be giving this a try if it ever
gets cold here again.
