Beer Tasting - Karmeliet Tripel

This
entry really isn't a beer review as much as it is a plead for our
readers to run out and grab this beer.  Karmeliet Tripel is an
outstanding beer.  I drank too many to really review it, hence the
reason why I can vouch for this ale.  It may be my new favorite
brew.

Next time I'll only drink one and I'll do a real review.  Until then, just go grab one.

Jersey Shore Town Bans Beer Games in Public

In a move that is sure to have no effect whatsoever on the problem it is trying to solve, Belmar is banning games like beer pong:

The borough of Belmar has banned outdoor games involving alcohol.
The so-called “Beer Pong” ordinance prohibits alcohol-related games or
contests on porches, decks, lawns, front and side yards, or anywhere
that can be viewed by the public and neighbors.

The
regulation takes its name from a drinking game in which players bounce
pingpong balls into cups of beer - then drink the beer. Borough clerk
Margaret Plummer said residents near rental areas have complained about
people playing such games on their front lawns, getting progressively
drunk and noisy.

Wouldn't normal noise and public drunkeness laws already apply?

Harbin Beer Fountain Nixed for Festival

90 tons of beer in a fountain.  That I would like to see. Unfortunately, it won't happen in Harbin, China:

According to critics, the fountain sponsored by Harbin Brewery Group
would have consumed 90 tons of beer - produced using 1,800 tons of
water, 9,000 kilograms of coal, 14,400 kilowatt-hours of electricity
and 18,000 kilograms of grain.”It's OK for businesses to
put up eye-catching ads but it's definitely not OK to squander public
resources,” said Liu Yu, a Heilongjiang University student. “We're not
rich enough to squander scarce public resources like that. So many
people cannot even afford a beer.”The brewery explained
the fountain would have used limited resources. “We just wanted to
highlight the beer culture that is deep-rooted in Harbin,” said Fu Hui,
chief operation manager of Harbin Brewery Group. “When we first tried
the beer fountain, we only mixed one ton of beer though the capacity of
the fountain pond was 400 tons. After all, to make it smell like beer
is enough.”

Why
they want a fountain to just smell like beer is beyond me. The really
depressing part is that many of the people there can't even afford a
beer.

Robotic Beer Funnel

If you were to build one, here is what it would look like:

Not sure of the details since there are just pics on the web site but someone had too much time on their hands.

Friday Beer Blog Fun

By “fun” I mean “I’m lazy” since I’m just posting some links to other beer blogs. Hey, at least I’m showing the love… Some of these were things I was going to post about but didn’t find the time but most were good new beer stuff.

Just so there’s some original content in this post, I leave you with a picture:
